Vicky Holland talks #YourGOTRI
Yesterday Ruth, one of the newest members of our team, go the chance to help out at the media day we’d organised for British Triathlon at Lee Valley VeloPark.
Team GB’s Bronze medallist Vicky Holland joined a group of triathlon beginners as part of British Triathlon’s #YourGOTRI campaign, which is set to attract 10,000 new people into the sport.
“Having been in Africa when the London 2012 Olympics took place, it’s safe to say I was very excited about the prospect of visiting the Olympic Park, especially off the back of such a sensational Rio Olympic Games.
The VeloPark is an impressive structure and the cycling track itself is so much steeper than you could imagine.
Participants arrived at the VeloPark from around 12:30 and had to the chance to try an alternative triathlon with a combination of a short run, cycle and session on the rowing machine. Vicky arrived shortly after and chatted informally with everyone. People were visibly excited to see her bronze medal – a lot bigger in real life than it looks on TV!
It was a very busy day with a range of media attending, all wanting to speak to Vicky about her Rio experience and inspiring the public to get involved in the sport through #yourGOTRI.
Interviews were arranged with Sky Sports News, The Guardian, BBC Radio Gloucestershire, London24, the Newham Recorder, Yorkshire Evening Post and 220 Triathlon.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I learnt a lot and look forward to helping out at more media events in the months ahead.”
