The Game Changers - S3 Ep 3 Sue Campbell
“I took the role at the FA because it is the most powerful brand in sport. You might not like that but it speaks to millions of people in millions of homes.”
“I wonder if this is my last chance to really get women and girls sport understood, valued and used as a driver for social change. Because if you can’t do it with the FA you probably can’t do it.”
Just one of the powerful statements from Dame Sue Campbell, my guest on The Game Changers podcast this week.
Former Chair of UK Sport and CEO at the Youth Sport Trust, Sue is now Director of Women’s Football at The FA. In 2008 Sue was appointed to the House of Lords as a Cross Bench Peer and earlier this year became a Dame in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.
In this fascinating podcast, Sue shares how being a PE teacher shaped her entire career, what it took to persuade her to join the FA and how what is happening in women’s football today will help change lives more broadly across the UK.
I’m so grateful to Barclays for supporting this series of The Game Changers which features eight ‘fearless women in football’, and reinforces Barclays’ huge support for the beautiful game.
