Leaders' Week launch
Sue had a fabulous evening at the opening event of this year’s Leaders’ Week which focused on the commercialisation of women’s sport.
The event, which was hosted by Gabby Logan, saw a wide range of panelists answering thought provoking questions around the opportunities to make women’s sport more mainstream for broadcasters, sponsors and fans.
England Netball CEO, Joanna Adams, still on a high after England’s Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games this summer (and having seen Meghan’s netball skills on all the front pages last week) shared news that next summer’s World Cup in Liverpool has already had ticket sales of over £1.8M.
She was incredibly positive about the amazing support the sport has received from Vitality and Sky and talked about the plans the NGB is making to ensure the success of the World Cup can be translated into grassroots growth of the game. Joanna even mentioned that she is hatching a plan to have every netball facility in the country manned with a coach on the morning after England play in the World Cup to ensure they immediately capture all interest in the game.
Tammy Parlour, joint CEO of the Women’s Sport Trust, shared some of the charity’s impressive highlights in it’s 6 year history including projects the Getty Images, the #ShowUp campaign with Sky and the recent Neilsen research on viewing figures for women’s sport. Sue heads back into London for the full two days of the conference on Wednesday and Thursday. It looks like an extraordinary agenda and we’ll be sharing more of the content in this blog.
