First Women's Varsity Match at Twickenham
It was a momentous day for Women's sport on Thursday as Sue, Nicky and Amelia headed to Twickenham Stadium to watch the Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge's Women's Rugby teams.
What made the event particularly significant, was the fact that this was the first year that the women's game was being held at the home of England Rugby, on the same day as the men's match.
With a brunch prior to kick off, hosted by England Women's Rugby World Cup winner, Maggie Alphonsi, the stage was set for an incredible game between the two universities. Maggie emphasised the importance of the event and spoke of how she first became involved in rugby.
Armed with extra layers and takeaway teas, the Promote team took their seats to watch what was sure to be one hell of a game. After a tense start, Cambridge took the lead, and slowly but surely the light blues continued to break down the Oxford defence. Cambridge continued to storm the pitch with try after try and before we knew it, the final score line read Cambridge 52 - Oxford 0.
It was a fabulous event and the team were incredibly honoured to be a part of the day - heading home, they even managed to grab some fish and chips to celebrate!
