Women's Sport Network

Women's Sport Network event

Sue attended the Women’s Sport Network event this week and enjoyed hearing Debbie Jevans – CEO of England Rugby World Cup and Tricia Thompson – Head of Cycling at Sky talk all things women and sport.

Alison Kervin, the Sports Editor at the Mail on Sunday, did a good job with informal questioning which covered topics including quotas for women on boards, the challenges of increasing TV coverage for women’s sports and the positive influence playing sport can have on future management ability.

When questioned about advice for succeeding in a male dominated sports environment Debbie Jevans recommended that women ‘don’t be afraid to have an opinion and voice it’ saying this was a lesson she learnt early in her career.

Tricia Thompson recommended that ‘it’s important to love what you do in your role and wherever possible be the same person at work as you would be at home. Just be yourself, ask lots of questions and be open and honest.’
