Vitality Reading Half Marathon
Nicki, James and Sue headed to the iconic Madejski Stadium to manage the press office for the 2015 Vitality Reading Half Marathon at the weekend, and what a spectacle it turned out to be. With clear blue skies and beautiful sunshine, the conditions were ideal for fast times (and excellent photography thanks to our extended team, Leigh and Kathi.)
A tour of the race village, final press office preparations and of course the obligatory selfies in the Madejski Stadium shaped Saturday afternoon, before heading back to the hotel for a final pre-race team briefing.
Sunday’s race day saw over 15,000 runners (including 23 of our lovely media runners) flood the race village in a sea of charity race tops and costumes – one runner even took on the challenge of carrying a cement mixer on his back for good measure.
2,000 children and their families kicked off the day’s proceedings in the Green Park Challenge, a 1.5 mile run around the park before heading into the Stadium for an exciting sprint finish.
Next up was the Half Marathon, started by Sir John Madejski and the Mayor of Reading. And, thanks to the new look, flatter and faster race course, a hoard of personal bests were achieved across the board. Our very own Catherine came home with a 1:40:34 finish, taking 13th place in the U23 event, an amazing achievement.
James found a very sunny spot on the finish line to interview the runners as they came home to collect their medal, whilst Nicki and Sue covered all things social media and hosting a well-deserved post-race brunch for the media.
You really can’t beat the buzz of race day! Full results and a gallery or race day pics can be found here.
Roll on 2016!
