Learning from the best at the S+RA Leadership Convention
We’ve attended the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s annual Leadership Convention on many occasions in the past and it’s always been a great event for networking with the key movers and shakers in the sports industry including NGBs, charities, CSPs and suppliers.
This year the S+RA absolutely excelled itself with the level of speakers and that was also reflected in the number and calibre of delegates attending.
The two most inspirational individuals sharing their wisdom on what makes great leadership were Sir Martin Narey, formerly CEO of the Prison Service and Barnardo’s, and Dame Helen Gosh, currently DG at The National Trust having headed both Defra and the Home Office.
Other impressive speakers included Barbara Slater, BBC Director of Sport and Christopher Key, Associate Director of Les Miserables. Alastair Campbell gave an entertaining after dinner speech answering the many questions for him that the audience had submitted during dinner.
Another interesting new addition to 2015 convention programme was the ‘Alliance spotlight’– short, sharp, TEDtalk style presentations where speakers shared one strong thought or creative idea. These were very well received by the audience, and the two that particularly making a strong impact with us were delivered by Jack Buckner, CEO of British Triathlon and Arun Kang, CEO of Sporting Equals.
