This weekend brought sunny weather and what better way to enjoy it than getting primal for Reebok Spartan Race. Heaton Park in Manchester was taken over by thousands of Spartans putting themselves through a physical and mental test of strength to tackle the obstacles before them - amongst whom was our very own Catherine and Nicky J!
Racers were welcomed in style with a prominent race village atmosphere. Billowing flags, booming music and a glimpse of the fire jump finish was enough to get even the most unenthusiastic hyped. The 600 acre park played host to the Junior Spartan Race, 5km ‘Sprint’, and the almighty 13km ‘Super’. There were bodies donning finisher’s t-shirts and medals in every direction, as well as a fair share of mud.
Towards the end of the day once their work was complete, there was just one final job for Catherine and Nicky… to tackle the Super. Having accomplished the Sprint distance at Allianz Park in May, the Super was the next step towards gaining their Spartan Trifecta (all three distances in one season).
The girls overcame 13km of obstacles including malicious mud, barbed wire crawls, wall climbs, a spear throw and an ice crawl before the immensely rewarding fire jump finish. Now all that’s in their way is the 20km ‘Beast’. Time to get training…
