A Well Run Press Office for the Reading Half

Catherine, Nicky and Sophie were in Reading for the weekend to run the press office for Sweatshop's Reading half Marathon. It was an early start on Sunday morning but the team were compensated with a rather nice view from the press office overlooking Reading FC's Madejski Stadium.

After a few hours of prepping, it was time for the Green Park Challenge- a 3km fun run for families. The team accompanied Mayor Sarah Jane Hacker and Sir John Madejski to Green Park to start the race and get the day's events rolling. The route was filled with a sea of green and proved to be a hit for many young bodies getting their first taste of race life.

Lots of social media posting and it was back to the Madejski to manage the press office for our media runners. There was a certain former 400m Olympic sprinter in our midst too who took inspiration from Catherine's impressive PB for a half marathon. Iwan Thomas managed to start the half marathon event, alongside Sir John and Mayor Sarah and then jump down and run the race with his friend in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support!

It took just over an hour for the first elite runner to cross the line with Robert Mbithi taking first place. Jenny Nesbitt took first place out of all the females and it was incredibly her first ever half marathon race. A huge congratulations to them both and all the runners that took part, especially to our very own Amelia who was running in preparation for the London Marathon and looking amazingly fresh after 13.1 miles!
