Behind the scenes at the Reading Half

Nicky, Ruth and Sue were in Reading this weekend managing the press office for the 34th Vitality Reading Half Marathon, which saw over 10,000 runners take on the prestigious event.

The team were kept incredibly busy playing host to Sir John Madejski, Mayor Cllr Mohammed Ayub and Iwan Thomas MBE, managing social media live from the start and finish lines of the Green Park Challenge and Half Marathon, as well as liaising with press, elite athletes, spectators and media partners.

The day was a fantastic success and although not blessed with sunshine and blue skies, all runners finished with huge smiles on their faces, cheered home by the fantastic crowd which gathered inside the Madejski Stadium, treating every runner to a hero’s finish.

The men’s race was won by Andy Vernon, who dominated a strong British and Irish elite field to finish with a fast time of 1:03:08. Whilst the women’s race was won by Charlotte Purdue, who raced away from the others to finish in a time of 1:12:15.

And the fun runners were out in force; the Cool Runnings bobsleigh team, a camel, Pikachu and a crowd of Mario-kart racers were amongst some of the best fancy dress on the day.

Following the triumph of the event, Sweatshop have announced that Early Bird entries for the 2018 Vitality Reading Half Marathon and Green Park Challenge and now OPEN. You can enter here
