If you thought rugby was just a sport for men, then think again. Participation in women’s rugby has doubled in the past 10 years and the England women’s team won the World Cup last autumn.
Keen to attract even more women to the game, England Rugby have launched their new women and girls’ programme ‘Pitch up and Play’ and to get people talking, Scarlett and Nicky J arranged some glorious sunny weather last week and invited media to join us at Regent’s Park to come and have a go!
We had a great response from media really wanting to get stuck in and learn how to play the contact game. The sessions, which were coached by Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Natasha Hunt and England Sevens player Amy Wilson-Hardy, encouraged everyone to play to their strengths whether they’re fast, agile, tall or strong, empowering everyone to unleash their inner toughness and unite as Rugby Women.
Sky Sports even popped down to be part of the fun - watch the video here
