Robin Hood Half Marathon

Sue and Sophie headed up to Nottingham this past weekend to handle the press office for Ikano’s Robin Hood Marathon and Half Marathon.

The sun was certainly out and after a couple of hours in the car and a few Starbucks coffees later they had arrived at the race village ready to soak up the pre-race atmosphere. After meeting the lovely race-makers at the start line and getting a feel for the route, they headed back to the hotel to finish prepping the social media for the big day. There was time for a bit of Rugby World Cup but unfortunately (not unfortunate for Kate) England couldn’t deliver against a resilient Welsh team!

It was an early and chilly start on Sunday morning and after a briefing with our photographers it was time to get warm with Sammy the Hamster from Gem 106 and running Coach George Anderson. The music was pumping and the bodies were jumping in anticipation for the race start! There was some colour added to a gloomy morning from the fancy dress that was out in full force and Sophie’s personal favourite were the two lovely lads as Elsa and Anna from Frozen!

Paralympian Richard Whitehead started off the races beginning with the wheelchair race, followed by the half and full and lastly but not least the mini marathon. The mini marathon was first to finish with a mad dash to get to the finish before the first runner crossed the line. Sue and Sophie made it in time to greet the tired but relieved smiling faces for interviews and photos!

With over 10, 000 finishers from all different ages, abilities and backgrounds coming together to celebrate their achievement in the race village, the atmosphere was incredible- a huge congrats to all involved, runners, volunteers and organisers. Roll on the 2016 event!
