Nicki and James headed to Nottingham over the weekend to manage the press office for the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon and Half Marathon, and what a scorcher it was!
James was particularly excited toreturn to his university home city, frantically pointing out every landmark on route to the new-look race village at the Victoria Embankment.
After a reccie of the race village on Saturday afternoon, the events team headed back to the hotel for the final race day preparations. Media passes, team kit and radios at the ready we were all set to welcome the thousands of runners to the start line.
Sunday morning greeted us with clear blue skies and the runners were ready for a hot race. A pre-race warm up and pumping tunes kicked off the festivities with an on-stage appearance from Gem FM’s mascot, Sammy the Hamster.
Robin Hood and Maid Marian set the 11,000 plus runners on their way. The first few hundred yards was a sight to see with a rainbow of fancy dress outfits, charity vests and Robin Hood costumes on show! 30 minutes later, the mini marathon saw over 2,000 children and families flood the home straight in a sea of red racing t-shirts!
Over to the finish line, Nicki and James interviewed the first of the runners coming home, all with gleaming, yet tired smiles as they crossed into the finishing area to collect their well-deserved race medals.
With over 11,000 finishers from all different ages, abilities and backgrounds coming together to celebrate their achievement in the race village, the atmosphere was incredible…a huge congrats to all involved, runners, volunteers and organisers. Roll on the 2015 event!
