Last Thursday we had the pleasure of unveiling England Hockey’s #BehindEveryGreatPlayer campaign to media and key stakeholders at the exclusive House of Sport, London.

Launched to coincide with 50 days to go until the start of the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup which kicks off on 21 July and runs through to 5 August 2018, #BehindEveryGreatPlayer has been created to maximise visibility and enhance perceptions of hockey, especially amongst parents of children that play, as well as the wider general public.

At the event our expert panel, including England Hockey player Emily Defroand and her mum Gill, Emma Mitchell from EIS, Dr Camilla Knight from Swansea University and Liza Ware from the NSPCC , discussed the fundamental role a supportive network plays in achieving sporting success. Following the first screening of #BehindEveryGreatPlayer, the lively, informative discussion, chaired by Olympic Gold Medallist Sam Quek MBE, explored subjects such as the importance of positive parenting behaviours, how parents can encourage sporting activities and best practices for parents when it comes to encouraging participation in sport.
