On Sunday (30th) Leandra took on her first half marathon. Here is what she had to say about running 13.1 miles for the first time.

"My goal this year was to improve my long distance running so I decided to sign up for the Ealing Half Marathon – a race voted the UK’s best half marathon three years in a row and West London’s biggest running event.

There were a few familiar faces including news presenter Ben Shephard, who was there on Saturday to congratulate the mini mile finishers, and endurance runner and influencer Susie Chan who compered the main event on Sunday.

I had been training with my sister for three months and it was great to have a training partner to keep me motivated and set the pace.

It was a very cold start to the morning and it took me around 5K before I got into running stride.

Along the route the community support was fantastic, thousands of people of all ages had lined the streets to offer bottles of water, cheer and most importantly… hand out Jelly Babies and Haribo.

I was surprised at the number of hills but managed to push through and it was around the 15K mark that I started to feel my legs ache, but seeing two runners dressed as the cartoon characters Tom and Jerry was the motivation I needed – at this point I decided to slow my pace to conserve some energy until the end.

I crossed the finish line in 2 hours 20mins which was a time I had been aiming for. Going forward, I am keen to work on my pace and am now planning to run additional 5K and 10K races to improve my speed with a view to running more half marathons and hopefully achieve sub 2 hours.

Ealing Half Marathon 2019 is now open for entry.

Good luck to Tom and Emma who are both running the Cardiff Half Marathon this weekend!
